Duo gear up for Bible Land bike ride

TWO factory workers from Bolton and Whitefield are swapping forklift trucks for pedal cycles, to help buy life-saving equipment for children. Workmates Alan Truelove and Gareth Stokes are putting the wheels in motion for a charity bike ride across Israel in February next year, when they will make the 220-mile trek from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea. They hope to complete the gruelling route from the lowest point on Earth in five days, to help raise funds to provide children's life-saving equipment in ambulances.  more...

Portable classrooms given the go-ahead

FOUR new classrooms, which some Little Lever residents claim will be an "eyesore", have been given the go-ahead at the local secondary school. Bolton Council Planning Committee has approved the installation of portable units in the front car park of Little Lever School on Church Street. The school, which originally intended to extend, has been unable to build a two-storey education block due to health fears after experts discovered "ground contamination" from industrial waste tipping many years ago.  more...

THE Octagon Theatre wants to book a talented local dog for the prestigious part of Dorothy's pet, Toto, in their festive show The Wizard of Oz, which runs from November 19 to January 23. Owners of pets with potential are invited to send in photographs of their dogs to the theatre. A lucky few will be shortlisted for audition before the final four are chosen to perform during the run of the show. This will mean an average of two shows a week for each dog.  more...
